DON'T SIT ON YOUR LAURELS!
SYLVIA NEUSCH, ROUND ROCK, TX
This is the phrase I felt I heard the Lord say the morning after the election, while I was basking in the glow of the victory. It was a phrase I had heard before but had never personally used, so I looked it up to verify its meaning.
The phrase originates from ancient Roman and Greek traditions where laurel wreaths were given to victors of various athletic, or other events as a symbol of success, status, and victory. "Sitting on your laurels" means being content with past success or victories and not making any effort to stay involved and continuing to achieve more (see Merriam-Webster).
The message couldn't have been clearer for me. Many of us have been actively involved in praying, interceding, and declaring God's hand in our nation. So many thousands, if not millions, have fought and fought hard to see God's righteousness and justice be revealed. Praise God, we have seen a measure, but there is so much more work to be done!
I felt the Lord was good with, and even encouraged our celebrations of victory, but emphasized this message, "DON'T SIT ON YOUR LAURELS!".
