Jesus was in the boat with His disciples sleeping while crossing over to the other side. Then a violet storm began on the sea. and the wave swamped their boat. When the disciples saw the situation, they were so scared, and they woke Him up from sleep. They cried and said, “Lord save us we are going to die.
Jesus arose from sleep unperturbed, “(Mat 8:26 NKJV) But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.” He was surprised at their fearfulness and littleness of faith.
Jesus left the violent storm and addressed their fearfulness. He first rebuked their fearfulness, before He rebuked the winds and the sea. He addressed their emotion, before He addressed their situation. The fear of a thing destroys faster, than the real thing. The fear of death kills faster, than death itself. It is not the storm that is the issue right now; it is the feeling of fear about the storm.
The storm didn’t say, “I am going to kill you”, but fear made them say, “We are going to die.” So, Jesus had to address their fearfulness first, before He addressed the storm. Victory does not begin by facing your situation; it begins by addressing your emotion. We need to first overcome our feelings, before we can conquer our circumstances.
You cannot overcome anything that you welcome, or approach with the feeling of fear. Conquer your fear first, then go ahead and overcome whatever comes against you, in the name of Jesus Christ. Jesus is not just in your boat; He lives on the inside of you.
Father, let every seed of fear in my life be uprooted, in the name of Jesus Christ.
What can we do when everything around us seems out of control?
